Child Life Sample Work
Details the role of a child life specialist and how it is its own form of pedagogy. Children are educated about their illnesses and procedures, taught valuable coping skills, guided to meet developmental milestones, and given the tools and resources needed to continue to grow, thrive, and succeed despite the challenges they face.
Describes the activity I designed for adolescent amputees and the rationale behind the benefits of this project for the designated population. Included is also relevant information about this population and their experiences in the hospital setting.
Documents a real-life example of how play was used therapeutically with a child. Incorporates developmental theory to analyze both successful and unsuccessful interactions with a young child I met at a family camp for children with Type 1 Diabetes.
An entire case report, including a SOAP chart note, imagined scripted educating the patient and family about the illness, and relevant therapeutic activity. The activity portion includes a narrative about why the activity was chosen, its objectives, and its therapeutic and developmental benefits. It also includes a link to a video of me doing the activity.
